Rules for creating a tachograph pit

The design and installation of a pit dedicated to tachograph operations requires in-depth expertise and compliance with numerous technical and regulatory requirements.
Depending on the type of vehicle to be inspected, the positioning of the bench and idler rollers varies. It is imperative that they are neither at the beginning nor at the end of the runway, otherwise the DRIRE will refuse approval.
Although the new dynos automatically measure wheel revolutions, It is advisable to provide a manual alternative in the event of a breakdown. To achieve this, the idler rollers must be placed at least 4 metres from the entrance door. If this space is insufficient, the measurement can be carried out after the bench.
The integration of the bench into the pit also requires major structural constraints. Vertical load drops that may exceed 20 tonnesThe design must take account of Eurocode standards to guarantee the solidity and durability of the installation. We also anticipate the installation of connection sleeves to connect the bench to the manufacturer's control box.
For a tachy tank that complies with current standards
Tachograph inspection pits must comply with the same requirements as mechanical and emptying pits. It is therefore compulsory to include :
- A suction system heavy gases at the bottom of the pit.
- A lateral corbel to accommodate lighting and other accessories (equipment protruding from the walls is not permitted).
- Lighting of at least 450 Lux under the chassis to ensure optimum working conditions.
- Watertight casing preventing water from rising and polluting the water table.
- Safe staircases on either side of the pit.
- A bright, easy-to-clean coating for the side walls.
- A water collector with a pump at the bottom of the pit.
- A non-slip floor to reduce the risk of falling.
