Keolis Lyon secures its braking pit with our motorised aluminium cover
KEOLIS:
25 Tonne/m² pit cover

Mars 2021
KEOLIS Several years ago, the company opted for a system of inflatable covers designed to catch a person in the event of a fall into a pit. This solution involves installing air mattresses positioned along the entire length of the pit. These mattresses, which roll up under air pressure, are generally installed 40 cm below the slab level. A remote control box allows for the control of safety zones, with the mattresses not necessarily deployed all at the same time.
Very quickly, This inflatable canopy system appeared to the client as a very costly solution to maintain. Indeed, these railway pit protections are very often prone to air leaks because they are very fragile. The slightest hole requires either running the compressor constantly to maintain air pressure in the mattress, or quickly calling in a technician to repair the leak.
The annual maintenance cost being far too high, coupled with an overly frequent and lengthy after-sales service, ultimately led to the demise of this pit protection system, which had clearly become obsolete from every perspective.
As the device is no longer used by operators, the fight against the risk of trips and falls has therefore become a priority issue for Kéolis to address once again.
For the same reasons, the company Alstom which had also equipped itself, will replace and gradually dispense with this air cover system in favour of a more reliable, simpler to implement, and much less expensive solution in terms of maintenance.
KEOLIS is entrusting us with the dismantling and replacement of its pneumatic railway pit covers.
This is a turnkey solution that we offered to the Lyon public transport operator.TCLA comprehensive service provided by our teams, including:
- Dismantling and reinforcing these air cushion covers.
- Civil engineering works: cutting of pit-edge rails and cantilevers for storage of our new motorised pit cover 25T/m2
- Full installation of our pit curtains with pedestrian walkways to cover the stairwell gap.
- Commissioning and training.
From now on, the KEOLIS company will be equipped with a simple, efficient, quick-to-install, reliable system with no maintenance costs.
The customer is convinced that the product finally meets all their expectations.
